If you only have one Shipping Class and one Shipping Group, this is simple:
- If the customer only orders one item they will be charged the 'First Item' price.
- If the customer orders two items they will be charged the 'First Item' price plus the 'Additional Items' price.
- If the customer orders three items they will be charged the 'First Item' price plus two times the 'Additional Items' price.
If you have one (applicable) Shipping Class and two Shipping Groups it is slightly more complex. Let's say you have a 'T-shirts' Group and a 'Prints' Group like this:
If the buyer is in the US and buys a T-shirt they will be charged $5.00 shipping.
If the same person buys two T-shirts they will be charged $5.00 and $0.50.
If they buy two Prints they will be charged $4.00 and $0.30.
If that person buys products from more than one of your shipping groups at the same time, then the system charges the 'First Item' price for the first item from each group, and the 'Additional Items' price for each additional item from each group.
For example, if the buyer is in the US and buys one Print and one T-shirt then they will be charged $4.00 and $5.00.
If the same person buys two Prints and two T-shirts then they will be charged $4.30 for the Prints and $5.50 for the T-shirts.
