If you only have 1 Shipping Class and 1 Shipping Group, this is simple:
- If the customer only orders 1 item they will be charged the 'First Item' price
- If the customer orders 2 items they will be charged the 'First Item' price plus the 'Additional Items' price
- If the customer orders 3 items they will be charged the 'First Item' price plus 2x the 'Additional Items' price
If you have 1 (applicable) Shipping Class and 2 Shipping Groups it is slightly more complex. Let's say you have a 'T-shirts' Group and a 'Prints' Group like this
If the buyer is in the US and buys a T-shirt they will be charged $5 shipping
If the same person buys 2 T-shirts they will be charged $5 and $0.50
If they buy 2 Prints they will be charged $4 and $0.30
If that person buys a T-shirt and a Print the system charges the most expensive 'First Item' price so, in this case, the customer will be charged $5 and $0.30
